New End-User Interface for Mailspect Antivirus and Antispam Quarantine

Tarrytown, New York, July 11, 2011. Mailspect has released a new version of its popular email filtering software, Mailspect Defense. The new version, Mailspect Manager 1.7.3, includes a re-designed end-user interface for its Message Viewer module for email quarantine. The new interface puts all end-user commands on a single Action Ribbon eliminating the need for end-user training. In addition, end-user Black and White Listing of quarantined email involves a single click.

“Mailspect Defense is an end-to-end email security solution for mail gateways and servers. Through its control panel, Mailspect Manager, the software manages email security during all three phases of email processing: before it enters the email queue, during antivirus and anti-spam scanning and in post-queue quarantine. The software protects against computer viruses, spam, phishing, malware and Internet attacks. In post-queue, Mailspect Defense provides a state-of-the-art email quarantine that lets end-users and systems administrators manage “grey” email. With version 1.7.3, the end-user can act upon the emails in the quarantine using one-click button commands to: Remove, Deliver, Forward, Reply, Save to desktop, Export, Report False Positive, Print, Add to Whitelist or Add to Blacklist. The buttons are self-explanatory and easy-to use”, said Paul Sterne, president, RAE Internet, Mailspect’s parent company.

“ We took the new interface ideas that we had incorporated into a sister product, Match My Email, a email integration application for Salesforce.com, and applied them to Mailspect Defense. The net result is a much cleaner and intuitive interface that improves the customer experience.” said Serhiy Fyrin, Head of Development, RAE Internet Inc., the owner of the Mailspect brand.

“We also incorporated the Action Button inside of the actual email so that there is no jumping between windows in order to take an action.” said Ovidiu Bivolaru, Product Manager, Mailspect Defense.

Version 1.7.3 also includes a number of improvements based on customer and reseller requests.

1. White and Black Lists handle aliases automatically
2. F-PROT anti-virus scanner is detected by Control Panel.
3. Easier search for blacklist entries.
4. Domain admin is not allowed to change his or her own permissions within Mailspect.
5. Domain admin is not allowed to set user permissions (domains, aliases) that are outside of the scope of his or her own permissions.

Open-Xchange Partners to Bring Cloud-Based E-mail Integration with Salesforce.com

Integration with Match My Email enables customer information and e-mails in one place

NUREMBERG, Germany and TARRYTOWN, N.Y., February 15, 2011 – Open-Xchange and RAE Internet Inc. announced today the ability to integrate Open-Xchange e-mail with Salseforce.com account information —putting customer communications and account information in one convenient place.

The Match My Email: Salesforce.com Edition is a cloud application residing in the Amazon cloud that imports e-mail every 20 minutes from any Open-Xchange e-mail server. The Open-Xchange server can be on-premises or hosted at a service provider. In the Match My Email cloud, the e-mail stream is compared with Salesforce.com account files, then matched e-mails and attachments are logged with the right account files in Salesforce.com.

E-mail integration increases the productivity of customer relationship management (CRM) applications by putting customer communications and account information in one convenient place. In addition, Match My Email blocks spam and malware, plus it can upload reports to mobile devices. RAE Internet estimates that the average user will see nearly $1,000 per year in labor savings using its automated service versus a manual Outlook plug-in.

“The integration of Open-Xchange with Match My Mail improves the organization of information and makes it that much more useful within Salesforce to track customer communications,” said Rafael Laguna, CEO, Open-Xchange.

“It’s so simple to set up Match My Email and Open-Xchange that we were able to get one user up and running with his Salesforce.com account in less than 10 minutes,” said Paul Sterne, president, RAE Internet Inc. “And, the productivity improvement with this automated integration of customer communications and account information is significant.”

Mailspect Archive Adds OpenOffice Document Support

Full-Text Indexing of Archived OpenOffice Attachments Available

In response to customer demand, Mailspect has released an upgrade of Mailspect Archive that provides full-text indexing of OpenOffice documents attached to email.  Mailspect researched, programmed and tested this upgrade in a three-week development cycle leveraging its growing global development community.  OpenOffice continues to be the leading alternative to commercial office automation applications such as Microsoft Office and Google Apps.   In July, it was voted best 2009 Government Open Source application at the Fourth Annual Sourceforge Community Choice Awards.  The MPP Archive update is available at:

 http://www.mailspect.com/2009/08/11/mpp-adds-openoffice-document-support/

Open Source software is being adopted by governments all over the world at an accelerating pace.  The Center for Strategic and International Studies’ Sixth Annual Open Source Policies Survey, released in July 2008, documents 275 Open Source policy initiatives being pursued by governments around the world.

http://csis.org/files/media/csis/pubs/0807218_government_opensource_policies.pdf

“OpenOffice is an important component of the Open Source movement because it is generally part of  ‘an open file format’ initiative aimed at freeing users from vendor lock-in on the desktop.  In some government markets such as Hungary and the Netherlands, analysts estimate that OpenOffice has achieved market penetration of more than 12%.   This market share shift has resulted in a critical mass of users requiring full-text indexing of OpenOffice documents in their email archiving solution.”, said Paul Sterne, Chief Marketing Officer, Mailspect Inc.

“The global economic crisis has caused governments and enterprises to re-evaluate their IT investments and more and more organizations are deciding for open solutions like OpenOffice.  Mailspect has been serving the Open Source segment of the email and groupware market for years with products that defend, archive and manage the enterprise email stream.  The decision to add OpenOffice document support to Mailspect Archive was based solely on customer demand as more and more organizations make OpenOffice a key element of their RFP’s.” said Mike Katz, CEO, Mailspect Inc.

MPP Archive Complies with ‘Ten Golden Rules of Archiving’

July 28th, 2009 New Rochelle, NY – The German IT trade journal, c’t magazin fuer Computer und Technik, published an article in its June 2009 issue entitled “The Ten Golden Rules of Email Archiving”. These guidelines were compiled by the German Association for Organizational and Information Systems to help enterprises implement legally compliant archival systems. Email archiving is now a legal requirement that all German companies must implement in order to comply with regulations promulgated by the German Tax Authority, among other government agencies. In addition, email has recently been elevated to discoverable evidence in disputes and judicial processes if it can be proven that the email was stored in a tamper-proof repository and could not be altered by the end user.

The ‘Ten Golden Rule of Archiving” [Zehn Goldene Regeln in German] are:
1. Each document must be securely stored in accordance with legal and organizational requirements.
2. No email may get lost either on the way to the archive and in the archive itself.
3. Each email must be archived at the earliest possible moment from an organizational standpoint.
4. Each email must be an exact replica of the original email and be archived in exactly the same form.
5. Each email must be accessible to only the original receiver or sender.
6. Each email must be retrievable within a reasonable period of time.
7. Each email must be purged from the archive as soon as possible at the end of its retention period.
8. Every other action concerning the operation of an email archive must be governed by rules that are clearly documented.
9. The entire organizational and technical construct of the archive must be auditable by a third party at any time.
10. Every migration or change in the archive must conform with all the proceeding rules before it shall be undertaken.

“Mailspect has worked with experts in global email archiving regulations to develop a product that complies with these many requirements out-of-the-box. MPP Archive allows C-level executive to be certain that their regulatory and legal discovery exposure related to email retention is minimized, “ said Michael Katz, Founder and CEO, Mailspect, Inc.

MPP stands for ‘Message Processing Platform’. MPP is based on Email Stream Management (ESM) technology from Mailspect. Email stream management recognizes that email and its embedded data is the most important data stream of every organization and individual. Worldwide, it is estimated by Radicati Group Inc., that there are 2.5 billon email accounts; 42% of the world’s population relies on email for information and collaboration. ESM is the technology that unlocks the potential of email by (1) protecting it from external threats like computer malware, viruses, spam, phishing, fraudsters and denial of service attacks, (2) associating it with core business systems and processing it using business logic; and (3) archiving it for retrieval in compliance with government regulations and legal discovery rules. ESM enables enterprises to bridge the schism between data embedded in email and data silo’ed in core business systems like CRM, CSM, BI, SCM, CM, ERP and DM.

Mailspect MPP Adopts Sphinx Index Engine

Leading Email Archiving Solution Adopts Sphinx, a free Open Source SQL Indexing Engine Offering Scalable Archive Search and Fast Retrieval.

After thorough testing of the leading Open Source index engines, Mailspect Inc. has selected Sphinx as the search and retrieval engine for MPP, the Message Processing Platform. Sphinx is an Open Source project founded and maintained by Andrew Aksyonoff of Voronezh, Russia. It was designed from the ground up to integrate seamlessly with SQL databases and scripting languages. In addition, the Sphinx project is obsessed with performance in terms of speed and CPU density. According to the Sphinx website, it can handle email stores of up to 100 million documents on a single CPU, can index incoming content at the rate of 10MB per second and offers very, very fast query retrieval times. The scalability and speed of the product are evidenced by its adoption by leading service providers like Craigslist, an affiliate of Yahoo! Jeremy Zawodny, a software engineer at Craigslist, has written an excellent article about Sphinx in Linux Magazine, in which he states that Sphinx removed the ‘invisible glass ceiling’ in MySQL’s full-text indexing performance.

http://www.linux-mag.com/cache/7369/1.html

The index engine is a key middleware component of any email archive application like MPP Archive. Index engines convert text and information into numerical patterns that can be quickly searched and retrieved by computers. Combined with Boolean logic, a well architected index engines is the key to fast email archiving, query and sophisticated search strategies.

“We chose Sphinx because it scaled and email archives can grow over time into huge repositories of data,” said Ovidiu Bivolaru, Chief MPP Engineer. “Customer feedback about the technology has been outstanding.”

MPP adds Sphinx to the long list of Open Source technology components that serve as building blocks or plug-ins in its technical architecture: Postfix created by the legendary IBM Watson Research Lab in New York; MySQL, the brainchild of two Swedes and a Finn: David Axmark, Allan Larsson and Michael “Monty” Widenius; MySQL is a subsidiary of Sun Microsystems soon to be part of Oracle; Spamassassin created by Justin Mason, who lives in Ireland; ClamAV, a project headed by Tomasz Kojm of Poland and SURBL created by Jeff Chan.

MPP stands for ‘Message Processing Platform’. MPP is based on Email Stream Management (ESM) technology. Mailspect Joins Forces with Gen8 Solutions to Extend Archive Import

Gen8 Solutions’ Emailchemy and Harvester technologies vastly extend and improve the email import capabilities of MPP Archive’s MPP Green architecture.

Mailspect Inc. is pleased to announce a new partnership with Gen8 Solutions, the creator of the Emailchemy and Harvester email import and migration technologies to better support legacy email formats such as PST files. With this partnership, Mailspect is extending the benefits of the MPP Green architecture to unify email stores of virtually all varieties into web accessible, searchable and optimized archives. MPP Green can now unify email formats like Microsoft’s PST, and many other proprietary and outdated formats.

MPP Archive offers a comprehensive email archive solution that is ideally suited for environments that have strict archive and discovery requirements but want an open and cost-effective Linux based solution. MPP archives, indexes and optimizes real-time email streams from MS Exchange and popular MS Exchange replacements like Zimbra, Zarafa, Scalix, Open-Xchange and others. With the recently announced MPP Green architecture, MPP Archive intelligently imports proprietary and standards-based mail stores such as IMAP and GMAIL and provides efficient single instance storage and cross-mailbox searching. It de-dupes emails, strips duplicative attachments, scans based on content inspection rules as well as cleanses and purges long-dated emails. MPP Green converts fragmented mail stores to indexed, full-text searchable, centralized archives. As such, MPP Archive can serve as the basis for email lifecycle management.

Using the Harvester option, MPP Green can automatically find and import private PST folders stored on end-user desktop and laptop disk drives. These capacities will enable mail administrators to centralize disparate mail stores into a single, searchable email archive. Aggregating email stores improves compliance with corporate and government email retention and retrieval rules and regulations.

In addition, the new MPP Green extensions can import email from all of the following email servers: AOL for Windows (“PFC” files), Claris Emailer for Macintosh, CompuServe Classic for Macintosh (aka “MacCIM”), CompuServe 2000 for Windows, Entourage (Database, .RGE Archives and cache files), Eudora, Mac OS X Mail, Mozilla, Mulberry, Musashi, Neoplanet, Netscape, Opera, Outlook for Windows (.PST and .OST files), Outlook Express for Macintosh, Outlook Express for Windows, Outlook Express for UNIX/Solaris, PowerTalk/AOCE for Macintosh, QuickMail Pro for Macintosh, QuickMail Pro for Windows, Thunderbird, Yahoo! Mail and any UNIX-style or mbox-format mailbox.
